Mercedes-AMG has released a new teaser of its inbound battery-powered super sedan and locked in a June reveal for its Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S Plaid fighter.
Posting a silhouette of the slippery four-door coupe it plans to reveal to its Instagram, Mercedes’ performance division captioned the teaser “just a glimpse – for now”, before adding: “Something big is coming. June 2025”.
No further details were released but it’s well-known Mercedes-AMG has been developing its first EV for more than half a decade and now it seems the all-electric replacement for the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is little more than a month away.
Already spotted cold weather testing last year, details of the new Taycan rival remain scarce but we do know it will be based on the Mercedes-AMG's own AMG.EA electric architecture it has developed from scratch.
The performance division refused to use a standard Benz EV platform on the basis it wouldn’t work with its pioneering next-gen Axial Flux disc-shaped e-motors that will power the halo four-door coupe.
Weighing just 24kg each, the Yasa – owned by Mercedes – e-motor produces up to 358kW and 800Nm of torque; the fast four-door and its related super SUV are each set to have four motors, forecasting a combined power output in excess of 750kW.
Despite AMG execs previously talking about 1000hp+ (746kW) for its first EV, it’s thought the battery-electric super sedan should overhaul the 815kW the Porsche Taycan GT for sheer muscle.
Other advanced tech includes 800-volt electronics, and a battery pack developed in-house featuring a silicon anode.
When it comes to its looks, expect the 2022 AMG Vision concept to provide plenty of influence.
More teases will no doubt be released in the build-up to the new 2026 Mercedes-AMG super sedan's June unveiling.
