Citroen has unveiled the C3 Aircross at a special VIP event in Paris ahead of the new small Nissan JUKE rival's launch in the fourth quarter of this year.
Heavily inspired by the C-Crosser concept that was shown at this year's Geneva motor show, the new C3 Aircross measures in at 4.15m long, 1.76m wide and stands 1.64m tall.
Featuring a raised ride height (20mm higher than a C3), chunky looks and faux bash plates the French car maker's latest offering borrows much from both the original C4 Cactus and the latest C3 supermini but has a clear SUV emphasis.
Inside, to the relief of owners of the current small C3 Picasso it replaces, the C3 Aircross keeps the old car's practical and versatile interior.
Boot space, at 410-litres, is generous while interior space is claimed to be near class best for head and legroom in the small SUV segment.
A sliding second row bench also helps owners prioritise space for either passengers or luggage.
Despite its off-road looks all models are front-wheel drive with the option of Citroen's Grip Control system that has Sand, All-Road, Snow or ESP off modes, designed to enhance traction in slippery conditions.
The little SUV also comes with a hill descent programme for added help if you ever venture off road.
Under the bonnet, there's the choice of three-cylinder PureTech petrols and the choice of one diesel.
Most models will come with a five- or six-speed manual but Citroen's EAT6 six-speed automatic will also be offered.
Instead of focusing on outright dynamics, Citroen engineers say they have aimed to make the C3 Aircross as comfortable as possible for both driver and passengers. This includes ensuring the seats have generous seat squabs, the suspension offers a supple ride and the little SUV is quiet at a cruise.
New tech developed for the C3 Aircross include a colour head-up display, self-park mode, lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring.
Like its rivals, Citroen is keen its customers spend plenty of time (and money) personalising their C3 Aircross with a dizzying eight body colours available that can be combined with four roof colours and a further four additional colour packs.
Inside the cabin the choice continues with another five colour options.
On sale in markets like the UK this November, pricing is expected to begin at around $25,000.
It's likely the C3 Aircross will eventually be offered Down Under but its fortunes are linked to the success (or failure) of the C3 that will soon be on sale in Australia.
