The all-new 2023 Volkswagen Amarok has once again been previewed in the build-up to its July 7 premiere ahead of its launch in Australia early next year.
This time, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has posted a short video on its social channels that reveal a completely undisguised rear-end that shuns the first-generation ute’s clean design for far more butch styling, including AMAROK stamped across the tailgate.
Look closer and you’ll also spot the 2023 Volkswagen Amarok model featured is the range-topping V6 version that’s set to pump out a respectable 184kW and 600Nm of torque from its new Ford-sourced 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6.
Up front, we already know from the shadowy teaser released in late May that the new Amarok will sport a pair of high-tech headlights that incorporate C-shaped LED elements within them and will include VW’s IQ.Light matrix technology.
No further information of the second-gen Volkswagen Amarok was released, but plenty is already known about it given its close ties to the Australian-developed Ford Ranger.
As well as the new 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6, the VW ute should be offered in Australia with the Blue Oval’s twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine.
Both engines will come standard with Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission.
For those who’ll use the Amarok for work, VW says the new pick-up’s tougher styling will be reflected in its increased capability.
The payload, for example, will increase to 1200kg while more powertrains will feature its class-best 3500kg towing capability.
Safety will take a significant leap forward too. The Amarok will gain full-length side curtain airbags, a centre airbag, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control and a more sophisticated autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system.
Within the cabin, expect the Ranger’s big infotainment and digital instrument cluster to be adopted by the Amarok with VW-unique graphics.
Based on the same new-generation ladder-frame as the Ranger, the new Volkswagen Amarok is expected to share the Ford’s 800mm wading depth and 3270mm wheelbase (up 175mm), measuring 5350mm long overall – making it at least 100mm longer than its predecessor
There’s no official confirmation yet on the Australian line-up, but in Europe there’s currently the choice of five model grades – a base spec, Life, Style, PanAmericana and Aventura, the latter aimed specifically at off-road buyers.
As reported, the Walkinshaw-developed W-Series models will live on – potentially badged as the Volkswagen Amarok W600S and W600X – with both expected to be introduced by 2025.
