It’s just nine days out from the global reveal of the all-new 2022 Volkswagen Amarok – at 6:00pm AEST next Thursday (July 7) – and the German car-maker isn’t showing any signs of slowing down its teaser campaign, today previewing the next-gen ute’s interior and cabin trim.
In a quick teaser video that shows off the new Amarok’s “elegant buttons”, dynamic close-ups reveal the texture of its more upmarket-looking switchgear including a row of silver buttons underlining the large portrait-style central touch-screen that looks a lot like the 12.0-inch unit that’s standard in the new Ranger from Wildtrak level.
Said line of controls is more akin to the toggle set-up seen in the Isuzu D-MAX and Mazda BT-50 twins than it is to the new Ford Ranger’s, and a prominent power/volume knob and revised air-vents also help differentiate the centre stack of the new Amarok from its donor model’s.
The buttons themselves comprise/control the hazard lights, stereo power and volume, parking assists, climate control shortcut, surround sense assist and the drive modes, in that order.
In contrast, the buttons on the panel below the Ranger’s high-spec touch-screen, which runs Ford’s latest SYNC4 operating system, are most climate control related.
“Functionality and an attractive, pleasing look and feel are not mutually exclusive,” said Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in its press release.
“The switches and buttons in the new Amarok below its control unit demonstrate this with their aluminium appearance and textured surface structure in the new teaser film.
“Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ new premium pick-up helps its drivers wherever it can.”
We’ve actually seen the new Amarok’s switchgear and button layout before in previous teaser sketches, the most revealing of which was released just last month when Volkswagen started detailing the various features its new pick-up will come with.
More importantly, the latest preview reinforces the fact Volkswagen is serious about the Amarok being more than just a ‘badge engineering’ to ensure it won’t hide in the new Ranger’s shadow.
The new Amarok is widely anticipated to have a higher asking price than the equivalent Ford Ranger, but will likely be more lavishly equipped to offset the extra cost.
