Nissan will front up at Goodwood today with a real-world version of its CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo – a mouthful of a name for a virtual reality design study that will feature in Gran Turismo 6.
Personally, we reckon it's more a contender for Batman: Arkham Knight than GT6.
While the computer-generated 2+2 supercar will be squaring off against all comers in the game, the real-life version is scheduled to appear at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 10pm tonight, our time. According to Nissan's press material, the overall look of the car was inspired by UK-based designers' love of the Gran Turismo game, but under-the-skin engineering for the show car has been handled in Japan.
Nissan is a little coy about what the Japanese engineers have slotted in beneath the show car, other than revealing it will feature all-wheel drive and active suspension. And the company is admitting nothing whatsoever about the prospects of the car heading for production – although it does look strongly like it could form the basis for a future generation of GT-R, as we posited a week ago. For the moment, the company's commitment is more closely focused on the virtual reality version of the car, which will be offered in 10 different colours when the car becomes available for download next month.
"This is in line with the Nissan philosophy," explained Koji Nagano, Vice President, Nissan Design Europe.
"In reality, not everyone would be able to own a car like NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, but through Gran Turismo anyone can drive it and experience Nissan's promise of delivering innovation that excites."
