Renault has developed a stylish sedan to complement the Megane hatch in certain European markets. The new model, named 'Fluence', will be built in the Oyak-Renault plant in Bursa, Turkey, for domestic sales in Turkey and exports to Russia and Romania.
Renault plans for the Fluence to go on sale in Turkey from November. The company claims that it provides more cabin space than any of its "major rivals" and will be well equipped, offering standard and optional features like climate control, satellite navigation, cruise control and remote controls on the steering wheel for MP3-compatible audio and Bluetooth phone.
Two petrol engines will be joined by a mix of diesel engines and, in 2011, an all-electric model. The petrol engines are a 1.6-litre DOHC engine that can be specified with either manual or automatic transmissions, plus a 2.0-litre DOHC four coupled to either a manual transmission or a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission).
Conventional underpinnings consist of MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam behind.
Safety features for the Fluence will comprise: ABS/EBD, Brake Assist, stability control, six airbags and five three-point seatbelts with pretensioners/load limiters.
According to Renault's PR people in the UK, there are no plans to bring the Fluence to Britain, which strongly suggests we are unlikely to see the car here in Australia. At the present time, the complexion of Renault's small-car range for Australia remains up in the air.
