Peugeot has revealed the first battery-electric versions of its new-generation Peugeot 308 hatch and Sportwagon, both of which are under consideration for an Aussie launch.
Dubbed the Peugeot E-308, the new zero-emissions French duo is powered by a single 115kW/260Nm electric motor that draws current from a 54kWh battery pack and gifts the small cars a projected driving range of more than 400km – WLTP approval still pending.
The motor is mounted directly to the front axle, and according to Peugeot at least, has an average energy consumption of 12.7kWh/100km, thanks in part to a regenerative braking system and aerodynamically optimised front bumper and undercarriage.
Capable of being charged at up to 100kW when using a DC fast-charger, the battery is claimed to go from 20 to 80 per cent in “less than” 25 minutes.
Both the 308 hatch and wagon ride on unique aero 18-inch alloy wheels and will come with Matrix LED headlights, three drive modes, 3D head-up display, heated steering wheel, digital cockpit and a 10-inch infotainment screen.
Anyone planning to pull the trigger on either of these chic little EVs are going to have to bide their time because, although they are being evaluated for our market, it will likely be more than a year before we see them in Aussie showrooms given they’re not launching in Europe until mid-2023.
If you can’t wait that long, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) GT Sport version of the new Peugeot 308, which goes on sale here in combustion-powered GT hatch and wagon form in coming months, will arrive Down Under in the first quarter of next year.
