The upgraded 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will be priced from $130,500 plus on-road costs when first deliveries start in the coming weeks, confirming fears that the V8-powered full-size pick-up will continue its push upmarket.
That new figure applies to the entry-level Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ Premium and, at $2500 more than before ($128,000 plus ORCs), makes GMSV’s entrant much pricier than official locally-converted rivals like the Ford F-150 (from $106,950) and RAM 1500, which will be priced from $119,950 once the fourth-generation DS-series pick-up is discontinued (currently $98,950 drive-away in runout).
The range-topping MY24 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2, meantime, goes up $5000 in price – from $133,000 to $138,000 plus ORCs.
But the extra outlay is somewhat offset by the inclusion of a new sports exhaust system for both models, along with the addition of adaptive cruise control, a Bose premium sound system, 15-inch head-up display, a rear camera mirror and power adjustable steering column to the ZR2’s standard equipment list.
No changes have been made to the hulking 6.2-litre petrol V8 lurking under the bonnet of either model variant, save for the new exhaust system that gives owners the ability to make it louder but doesn’t make any difference to official outputs of 313kW/624Nm.
“The MY24 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will now be standard with an active performance exhaust system providing customers the flexibility of a ‘standard’ exhaust experience – or dialling up the limiter to hear that traditional V8 rumble,” GMSV director Greg Rowe told carsales last year.
This is the second major price adjustment for the Silverado 1500 line-up in less than 12 months, after “economic factors influenced by COVID, supply chain challenges and volatility in foreign exchange” drove up asking prices by as much as $8000 last year without any spec upgrades.
GMSV delivered 2260 Silverado 1500s in 2023 – less than half the number of full-size utes sold by RAM Trucks Australia (5922).
