RAM 1500 Express Crew pick-up priced at $90K

Silverado spoiler: New mid-level variant brings V8 power and larger cab for under $100,000

RAM Trucks Australia has announced the introduction of a new mid-level RAM 1500 pick-up for 2020 -- the RAM 1500 Express Crew -- and it's aimed directly at HSV's upcoming Silverado 1500.

Priced from $89,950 (plus on-road costs), the petrol V8-powered Express Crew sits between the existing 1500 Express Quad V8 ($79,950) and the 1500 Laramie V8 ($99,950) in the Australian line-up.

It adopts the larger cabin of the 1500 Laramie, bringing with it additional head room, shoulder room and leg room, along with larger rear doors.

Under the bonnet resides a familiar 5.7-litre HEMI V8 with 291kW and 556Nm.

On the luxury front, the Express Crew pick-up takes a step in the direction of the Laramie: an 8.4-inch touch-screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and dual-zone climate control. It also comes with a black accent package and limited-edition colours:

Diamond Black, Bright White, Granite Crystal and Flame Red. The tray space measures 170cm in length and features a spray-in bed liner and optional RamBox Cargo Management System – a built-in esky of sorts.

Payload for the RAM 1500 Express Crew is listed at 830kg, while maximum braked towing capacity is advertised at 4500kg – considerably more than the mainstream dual-cab ute set but small enough to be used on a regular car licence.

RAM products in Australia are backed by a three-year/100,000km warranty with roadside assistance, while servicing intervals are set at every 12 months or 12,000km – whichever comes first.

The expansion of RAM’s 1500 line-up coincides with three eight-hour shifts at the company’s Melbourne ‘remanufacturing’ facility, the result of a $100 million investment.

“We’ve assessed the market and feel the time is right to build on the huge levels of passion for the RAM Trucks brand in Australia,” said RAM national sales director Jeff Barber.

“The 1500 Express Crew allows us to grow our product portfolio and offer a premium version of our entry level Express range. It also marks the first step in what will be an exciting product roll-out in 2020.”
