Ram has revealed its most powerful Ute ever created, the Rebel TRX Concept. And yes you read correctly, according to RAM this beast will do 160km/h off-road.
The Rebel Concept can achieve this feat mostly because of its engine, a stonking 6.2-litre supercharged V8 that produces a downright ludicrous 430kW. These figures mean that this engine is the most powerful donk Ram has ever squeezed inside a ute's engine bay.
This monstrous powerplant is mated to an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, which has been beefed up significantly by RAM to cope with the off-road speeds the Rebel is capable of achieving.
The Rebel will also use RAM's 4x4 Performance Control System in conjunction with a BorgWarner 44-45 transfer case. What's more, the 4x4 system will allow the driver to choose from four different terrain modes; Normal, Wet/Snow, Off-road and Baja, the last mode named after the gruelling Baja 1000 motorsport event.
The suspension is has undergone significant changes, including custom-built upper and lower wishbones (A-arms), with revised castor and camber angles. Suspension travel is increased and at the front the Rebel TRX is fitted with coil-over dampers.
Rear suspension comprises a live rear axle located by five links, uprated coil springs and bypass dampers. Mounting points are unchanged.
The brakes on the Rebel feature Baer six-piston monoblock callipers and 380mm disc rotors at the front and six-piston callipers and 355mm discs at the rear. Braking is aided by a factory hydraulic-boost compensation unit that enhances brake pedal feel and performance during an emergency stop.
As the Rebel TRX Concept is just that, a concept, don't expect it to be arriving on our shores any time soon. However, as RAM is now selling vehicles in Australia, there is always a chance we could get it here eventually, if RAM decides to put the Rebel into production.
