Recall wrap: Audi recalls almost 20,000 cars

Electrical faults impact Audi A4, Q5 and other popular models; Peugeot Boxer van also called back

Audi Australia has recalled more than 19,000 vehicles this month, with two separate recalls affecting several models ranging from the Audi A4 small car to the Audi e-tron EV.

The largest of the recalls impacts 18,186 examples of just one Audi model – the Audi Q5 mid-size luxury SUV, which is the German car-maker’s best-selling model.

Those affected include Audi Q5 models built between 2016 and 2021, with the manufacturer citing a potential fault with the central electronic control data network management unit.

Audi says that due to its installation position, liquid spilled onto the rear bench seat could damage the unit, which in turn could have various effects on vehicle functions.

Some of those are said to include the engine entering emergency running mode, the automatic gearbox shutting down and/or a reduction in steering assistance.

Other Audi models

Audi is recalling a further 1150 vehicles for the second time since September 2021.

That’s because replacement parts used to remedy the initial recall, which impacts nine Audi models built between 2019-2021 – A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, Q8 and e-tron – may be causing further damage.

Audi says the previous replacement of the rear axle clamping nuts may have caused a misalignment of the rear axle assembly, which could result in excessive wear to the rear tyres.

Peugeot Boxer

Meanwhile, Peugeot Australia has recalled just three examples of its 2019-built Peugeot Boxer van.

According to the French car-maker, the steering pivot joint bolts may not meet manufacturing specifications and may become loose.

The company said that if the joint becomes loose “the steering may deviate from its desired trajectory”, thereby increasing the risk of a collision.
