Recall wrap: Mercedes-Benz recalls more than 8000 cars

Software woes for many Mercedes models as Bentley Bentayga and McLaren GT also called back

Mercedes-Benz Australia is calling back more than 8300 vehicles due to a safety issue that affects almost every model in the German car-maker’s local passenger car and SUV line-up built between 2018 and 2020.

See our links below for a full list of affected vehicles, which starts at the Mercedes-Benz A 180 hatchback and extends right the way through the range to top-end models such as the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro supercar.

Covering a total of 8378 vehicles built from 2018-20, Benz says a software issue that could deactivate the vehicle’s emergency call system (eCall) is to blame.

“Due to a software issue, the automatic network search of the emergency call system (eCall) communication module may be deactivated,” the company said in the recall notice.

“In this case, the automatic and manual emergency call may not be available outside of the network coverage of certain providers.”

As a consequence, emergency vehicles may not be directed to the vehicle, or may be delayed, in the event of incident where the eCall system is required.

Bentley Bentayga

Bentley is recalling 128 examples of its 2020-22 Bentley Bentayga SUV.

The British car-maker says the rear seats may not lock in place and could move inadvertently in affected models.

This is due to improper assembly during production, where the rear seat runners may not have been correctly aligned or locked to the seat frame rails.

McLaren GT

McLaren is calling back 29 examples of its 2019-21 McLaren GT supercar over airbag concerns.

The British car-maker says connection to the driver’s airbag may not meet manufacturing specifications, which could prevent it from “deploying as intended”.
