Just in time to let your accountant know before the end of financial year, Audi has announced pricing for the new mid-engined R8 sports coupe.
Arriving in showrooms this September, the mid-engined would-be Porsche-eater will start from $259,900 for the six-speed manual version. The R8 with Audi's 'R-tronic' button-shift manual is priced from $274,900.
The Audi R8 is equipped with a 4.2-litre V8 FSI engine with 309kW and 430Nm (similar to that used in the RS4), and features Audi's Space Frame aluminium technology designed for minimal body weight while maintaining maximum rigidity and strength. Combined with its mid-engine layout and Quattro all-wheel drive, the R8 offers high directional stability and accomplished body control, the maker says.
The R8 also gets all-aluminim suspension and Audi's magnetic ride adaptive damping system, which uses dampers filled with magnetorheological fluid that changes viscosity in the presence of magnetic fields. The suspension re-adjusts thousands of times per second to soften bumps and stiffen for corners and flat-out runs (read more here).
