The new Silver Arrows Formula One works team, Mercedes GP Petronas, had its official launch in Stuttgart earlier this week, showing off the livery that will be displayed on new F1 race car and the all-German driver team.
It represents the first time since the mid 1950s that Mercedes-Benz has had a majority involvement in an F1 team, and with 41-year-old Schumacher making his comeback, the marketing opportunities for Mercedes-Benz are significant.
Nico Rosberg and seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher will both be behind the wheel of the shiny MGP W01 F1 cars for the 2010 season.
The return of the Silver Arrows with their distinctive livery were previewed on last years cars at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, but the new 2010 cars will make their track debut during the first official test in Valencia on Monday 1 February, followed by their race debut in Bahrain on 14 March.
"Finally the 2010 Formula One season is firing up!" exclaimed Michael Schumacher at the launch of the Mercedes GP team in Stuttgart. "I have to say that I am totally committed to this new challenge. This season feels like a re-start for me and I am so motivated.
"We have a very exciting combination at Mercedes GP Petronas. We have a World Champion team in every sense of the word and I cannot wait to get into the car for the first time in Valencia," added Schumacher.
Though Michael Schumacher has been an integral part of Ferrari's marketing over the past decade, many commentators have asked the question: will Michael help sell Mercedes-Benz cars? The answer is best summed up in the video below.
