SPY PICS: Cue S-Class looks for 2009 mid-size Mercedes

Here is the 2009 model E-Class Mercedes-Benz during testing at the Nurburgring. The pics, courtesy of the spy guys at Carparazzi, show both a standard production model of the forthcoming W212 model and an AMG-enhanced E63 model.

W212 will make its debut at the Frankfurt motor show in 2009, we're told. Many of the styling traits from the current S-Class W221 will trickle down into the new E-Class.

Note the wheel arch extensions and sculpture lines along the flanks. The E63 can be identified from the low end model by the bright finish on the A-pillars and the five-spoke alloy wheels.

Some features that are expected to be fitted include lane-departure warnings, an anti-fatigue eye movement monitor and an upgraded ESP system that makes allowances for cross-winds, camber change and tyre wear.

One feature that is unlikely to find its way into the new car's specification is SBC. The 'brake-by-wire' system is expected to make way for a conventional braking system in the new car, but with the wet weather disc-wiping function retained.
