SPY PICS: More Mercedes-Benz GLK
Additional pictures snapped of upcoming second generation Mercedes-Benz GLKMore spy shots of the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz GLK have surfaced, this time being tested in icy conditions.
The second generation GLK, snapped here by the folks at Automedia, will make it to Australia, after the first generation luxury compact SUV was limited to left-hand drive production. This is all thanks to the new GLK being built upon the same platform as the impending C-Class recently unveiled at the North American International Auto Show.
These new spy photos confirm that the upcoming GLK will be larger than its predecessor, with a longer wheelbase and wider track. This will slot the GLK right above the smaller GLA and just below the larger ML, which puts the second-generation GLK directly in competition with the BMW X3 and Audi Q5.
Although heavily camouflaged, the new GLK clearly adopts many current Mercedes styling trends, including a sloping roofline and more athletic proportions, giving a much sportier look overall.
We suspect engine options will range from the turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engines found in outgoing GLK models, to a possible range-topping 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder borrowed from the E400. However, rumours suggest Mercedes will slot in a new turbocharged four-cylinder, developed from the same engine powering the current CLA250, for its entry level GLK.
The next generation GLK is expected to launch in late 2014, and yes, it is still way too early to tell whether there will be an AMG variant.
