Toyota Racing Gazoo has released its first image of the Toyota GR Supra it will campaign at the Nurburgring 24 Hours Endurance Race weekend that begins on June 20.
This year, as well as the track-suited Toyota GR Supra, the Japanese car-maker will campaign an updated version of the Lexus LC it raced last year.
The 2018 N24 is one race Lexus would rather forget, following the big LC spent more than four hours of the total race time in the pits.
Based on the Supra that has already competed in the VLN Endurance Championship, Toyota says it has already identified 'various issues' with the Supra racer in the lead up to the 24 hours race. Of the two previous races, the Supra has finished only one, which doesn't bode well for the N24.
Appearing almost identical to the Supra GT4 concept that made its debut in March, the latest Toyota coupe is said to feature new front and side splitters plus a huge rear wing.
Under the bonnet, N24 regulations require the GR Supra racer's turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder to remain stock.
It's rumoured the existence of the GR Supra racer is evidence Toyota Racing Gazoo's road division is secretly developing a hardcore 'GT4' road-going version of the Toyota coupe in plain sight.
In May, it was announced the two-variant A90 Toyota Supra line-up will be priced from $84,900 (plus on-road costs) when it arrives Down Under in early September, with the flagship version commanding a hefty $94,900 (plus on-road costs).
The two-door Supra range will be powered solely by a 250kW/500Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine driving the rear wheels with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Toyota says the Supra will hit 100km/h in just 4.4sec courtesy of launch control.
