Toyota Supra leaked in new images

Toyota’s German division inadvertently whips the covers off new production model

The new Toyota Supra has had an unexpected preview in full production form.

Toyota’s German division inadvertently whipped the covers off the ‘A90’ in recent days by sending fans undisguised, official photos of the much-anticipated, reincarnated sports coupe.

Folks who had signed up for more information about the fifth-generation Supra received the surprise via an official company email. Toyota Germany swiftly reverted to a more fitting camouflaged image upon noticing the mistake.

There is little more to glean from the new Supra, which will be shown at this month’s Detroit motor show before arriving in Australia around October.

In the weeks after the car’s initial camouflaged unveiling at the Geneva motor show, we heard it at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and then drove a pre-production version for ourselves at an international launch in Spain.

That said, Toyota is still being very coy on the numbers that define the new Supra. The 3.0-litre straight six produces more than 220kW and 450Nm, they say.

The jury is still out on Australian pricing, too.

Until its official unveiling on January 14, there is rampant speculation about a convertible model following the coupe down the production line, and persistent demand from budding Australian buyers to consider.

Nonetheless, all will be revealed in the coming days.
