Trio of Mercedes-AMG Edition 55 specials up for grabs

Mercedes-AMG Australia has priced the limited-run 2023 Mercedes-AMG A 45 S hot hatch and CLA 45 S Edition 55 sports sedan from $115,800 and $136,900 plus on-road costs respectively, and simultaneously confirmed the local addition of the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 Edition 55.

carsales has previously detailed the flagship limited-edition small cars and their confirmation for the Australian market, but this is the first time we’ve heard of the special G-Class – based on the sold-out G 63 – being released here, with a hefty $394,991 plus ORCs asking price.

For their respective $8900 and $29,900 price premiums, all of the Edition 55 cars brandish enhanced cosmetics and extra standard equipment over their already loaded donor vehicles.

The compact duo will ship as standard with the usually optional Aerodynamics Package (splitter, canards and wing), AMG Night Package II, the choice of ‘cosmos black metallic’ or ‘digital white metallic’ paint, grey 19-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels and ‘Edition’ decals.

Inside the cabin is a unique contrasting black/red colour scheme underlined by the obligatory ‘Edition 55’ and ‘AMG’ badging, dark chrome polished trim, Dinamica microfibre-wrapped AMG Performance steering wheel and AMG Real Performance Sound enhancement.

Also included in the price is a customised black and silver AMG indoor car cover.

Meantime, the G 63’s Edition 55 makeover bundles in both the AMG Night Package and Night Package II, plus heat-insulating dark tinted glass, 22-inch cross-spoke forged wheels and a smattering of carbon-fibre trim elements.

This blacked-out look is continued on the interior by black and red Nappa leather upholstery, the aforementioned performance steering wheel and relevant badging.

Other spec levels remain standard and no changes have been made to the 310kW/500Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder or 430kW/850Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engines as part of the limited-edition makeover.

“Packed with extra features and fitted with eye-catching enhancements, the limited-edition Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4MATIC+ Edition 55, Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S 4MATIC+ Edition 55 and Mercedes-AMG G 63 Edition 55 are set to be snapped up quickly,” said Mercedes-Benz Australia.

There’s no confirmation on how many examples of each model will make it to Australia, but orders for the A-Class and G-Class Edition 55s will open exclusively online on February 7, while the CLA can be secured as of February 10.
