Volkswagen Australia has confirmed it will roll out a new limited-run 2022 Volkswagen Amarok Black Edition ute next year.
carsales has learned the Black Edition will go on sale in Australia from January 1, 2022, and will be restricted to just 400 examples.
Prices start at $64,090 plus on-road costs.
Using the Volkswagen Amarok V6 TDI580 Highline (from $61,990) as its base, the Black Edition features 18-inch ‘Rawson’ alloy wheels, illuminated side steps, a black sports bar, requisite ‘Edition’ door decals, gloss black mirrors and reworked front underbody styling.
Inside, there’s ‘Salipra’ cloth seat upholstery, black headlining and pillar trims, gloss black dash inserts, Discover Media with App-Connect, and steering wheel-mounted gearshift paddles.
Those features are over and above regular TDI580 spec highlights that include bi-Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, Bluetooth and satellite navigation.
Infotainment is controlled via a 6.33-inch touch-screen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Power comes courtesy of an unchanged 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 that produces 190kW (200kW on overboost) and 580Nm, with drive shuffled to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
All told, the drivetrain can turn around a claimed 0-100km/h time of 7.3sec, while fuel use is rated at 9.5L/100km combined.
The Amarok Black Edition features a carryover 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity with a 300kg tow bar rating. Payload is rated at 947kg.
Five different colours are available: Candy White, Atlantic Blue, Indium Grey, Deep Black and Pyrit Silver.
The Volkswagen Amarok Black Edition is backed by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, one-year roadside assist as well as Volkswagen’s optional Care Plan servicing.
It comes as the German brand prepares to launch the all-new second-generation Volkswagen Amarok in early 2023, switching from the current in-house platform to underpinnings and mechanicals shared with the new Ford Ranger.
