It still hasn’t been officially unveiled, but Volkswagen has confirmed a production date for the estate variant of its all-electric ID family.
The ID Space Vizzion is based off the Vizzion limousine, in the form of a wagon "with the space of an SUV," says VW.
Set to be revealed to the world at the 2019 LA motor show this month, Volkswagen will release the production version of the wagon in late 2021.
The German car-maker says we can expect a driving range of almost 600km from a full charge, but is yet to confirm power outputs or specifications.
There are a few images of the interior, revealing a futuristic design that's likely to be dialled back for the production model. However expect lots of high-res screens and the use of sustainable materials, including 'AppleSkin' which is a vegan-friendly artificial leather that makes use of apple juice.
Speaking with motoring.com.au earlier this year, VW design chief Klaus Bischoff confirmed the production version of the ID Vizzion saloon would measure around 4.9 metres long – so we’d expect similar proportions for the wagon.
The current Volkswagen Passat wagon, by comparison, measures just under 4.8 metres in length.
The ID Space Vizzion will be just one iteration of up to 27 battery-powered models set to use VW's latest modular electric drive matrix, or MEB platform architecture.
Although the electric wagon hasn’t been confirmed Down Under, a number of overseas markets such as Europe, China and the US will offer multiple variants of the model.
Traditionally wagons haven't sold well in Australia but the Passat bucked that trend, attracting more buyers than the sedan.
What Volkswagen has confirmed however, is the ID.4 crossover will be the brand’s first electric vehicle in Australia when the small SUV arrives in 2022.
