Wild new RAM ute designs revealed

High school students design RAM trucks of the future in virtual design competition

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has announced the winners of an online sketch competition in the lead-up to its Drive for Design contest, in which high school students are tasked with creating the RAM ‘truck of the future’.

In the lead-up to the amateur competition, FCA invited students all comers to a virtual sketch battle on Facebook and Instagram, where they were asked to create the “wickedest and most outrageous designs for a RAM truck”, with winners chosen by FCA designers Ralph Gilles and Mark Trostle.

With over 200 submissions, the entrants delivered a number of cool sketches, including electric pick-ups, futuristic off-roaders, a ‘Power Wagon’ concept and a few designs reminiscent of the Tesla Cybertruck, as well as a pretty realistic rendering of a Dodge Challenger based pick-up.

Unlike the open-entry sketch battle, the Drive for Design contest is for high school students only, and will reward winners with prize packages and an exclusive winner’s dinner with the FCA design team.

Also on offer is a scholarship to attend a summer program at the College for Creative Studies and a trip to Detroit to visit the FCA design studios.

Sponsored by the US car-maker’s product design team, the FCA Drive for Design competition requires entrants to be legal US residents in grades 10-12 in a US high school. Winners will be announced on May 8.
