Audi CES 2014 keynote address

Sport Quattro Laser Light concept car is the highlight of Consumer Electronics Show
Prestige brand Audi was true to form delivering the highlight of this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, with a keynote address complemented by the Sport Quattro Laser Light concept car
The 100KW Electric/V8 hybrid concept was driven onto the CES stage by head of Audi R&D Professor Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, who also went on to excite the technophiles present at the show with words such as Long and Mid-range radar, scanners, ultrasonic data input from around the car and, of course, laser lights combined with LED Matrix technology for a new brand of head lights.
In a presentation hosted by the Big Bang Theory’s Kunal Nayyar, Audi Chairman professor Rupert Stadler (pictured) was keen to cement the four rings of the car maker’s marque as a mainstay of the Consumer Electronic Show.
Having been the first car manufacturer to roll up to CES in 2010 Audi has been determined not to be lost in the crowd in 2014.
Stadler spoke about bridging the gap between Sci-Fi and real-world driving. The auto piloted A7 then drove itself onto the CES stage.
With partnerships between companies such as chipmaker Nvidia, telco AT&T and Google, Audi has help from the Open Automotive Alliance.
The result is this: what took a boot load of electronics to achieve at last year’s CES, has now been crammed onto a single motherboard known as the ZFAS.
The ZFAS allows Audi engineers to assess 2.1 billion data inputs per second from the outside environment and the car itself to enhance the next generation of driving assists and MMI (Multi Media Interface) systems.
Listening to customer feedback was a big part of how Audi believe it will take the next automotive technology step. More functions with less driver distractions are the overall aims.
AT&T gave us some insight as to what Americans can expect from this most sophisticated mobile device. AT&T Drive will connect Audi (and many other manufactures vehicles) to 4G LTE services as they traverse the North American highways.
The CES 2014 Keynote gave us glimpses of the next evolution of Audi Virtual Cockpit. Utilising parallel NVidia GPU’s (Graphics Processing Unit) the Virtual Cockpit can be customised for each driver whilst staying relevant to the driving situation, be it parking, stuck in traffic, or cruising the open road.
As Dr Hackenberg said on stage amongst laser lights and neon lit dancers, “the prototype period is almost over.”  Expect to see some exciting technology hitting the production lines in the near future.
