Audi's A7 Sportback, in overseas markets at least, appears to be in line for an "S" variant, even if local executives say it is unlikely to arrive in Australia in the immediate future.
Spy photographers Carparazzi recently snapped these shots of a meaningful, altogether undisguised A7 on test, bearing a few signs of being something more purposeful than the current model with its supercharged 220kW/440Nm 3.0 TFSI petrol V6 or 180kW/500Nm 3.0 TDI turbodiesel.
The suggestive A7 features a few things separating it from the current 3.0 TFSI and 3.0 TDI versions. It reveals more expansive, mesh-insert front air intakes, larger wheels and tyres, quad exhausts and, peeping out from behind the wheel spokes, larger-looking brakes.
Although the car is clearly short of the 432kW V10-engined RS7 variant rumoured to be in line for a reveal at the 2011 Paris motor show later this year, there is every chance an S7 would be powered by Audi's 331kW/430Nm direct-injection 4.2-litre V8 engine currently seen in the RS5 coupe.
At the Australian launch of the Audi A7 in March this year, Audi executives said an S7 was "unlikely, for now." Given the road-ready look of the spy-pix car, we would say a forthcoming A7 might prove irresistible to Audi Australia management.
