Audi will unveil its Shooting Brake Concept at Tokyo Motor Show next week.
Hot on the heels of the Q7 SUV's unveiling at Frankfurt (and Sydney!), the new three-door promises to deliver a blend of "powerful dynamism" with a "new sense of spaciousness and greater functionality" thanks to its Quattro underpinnings and mini-wagon/coupe configuration.
Powered by 184kW 3.2-litre six-cylinder engine, Audi claims the design study sprints from 0-100km/h in just six seconds and its top speed is electronically governed at 250km/h.
The Shooting Brake looks to blend aspects of the current TT, A3 and A4 ranges. The front-end features the new single-frame grille, however, the headlamps and bumper while reminiscent of the RS4 are bespoke. There's a hint of TT about the clamshell bonnet and the way it flows over the front wheel arches.
Rearward it's more hatchback than wagon - at just under 4.2m-long the concept is shorter tha the A3 Sportback and as such it doesn't exactly match the shooting brake tag. A true shooting brake is traditionally more aligned to a two-door wagon, a la Lancia's HPE, Reliant's iconic Scimitar or indeed, Volvo's P1800ES.
