DETROIT MOTOR SHOW: Nissan reveals Vmotion 2.0 concept

Nissan has again shown its appetite for concept cars, revealing the revolutionary Vmotion 2.0 prototype at the Detroit motor show.

Following on from the likes of the ID-S concept unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo motor show, the Vmotion 2.0 further evolves Nissan’s future styling direction.

It is also a key conduit for future autonomous technology from the Japanese manufacturer.

There is no concrete proof of the Vmotion 2.0 materialising into a production model, but all the speculation is around elements of the car reaching the 2019 Altima sedan.

According to Nissan chief designer Shiro Nakamura, you will soon see elements of the concept in future Nissan products.

“This is not a specific product we are proposing,” he said.

“We would like to show what the next design from Nissan and how a sedan can be more attractive.

“The sedan segment is very established, but we believe the sedan can be more emotional and attractive.”

This Vmotion 2.0 has been developed with a key focus on autonomous driving. When the car’s self-driving systems are engaged, the front badge and rear diffuser illuminate to alert other road users.

Inside the concept features a high-resolution display screen, and a premium mix of interior treatments.

The manufacturer hasn’t given details of the Vmotion 2.0’s engine, but its physical proportions – 4860mm by 1890mm wide by 1380mm tall -- certainly give way to both internal combustion and electric powertrains.
