Electric RAM 1500 concept to debut in November

It might be late to the party, but RAM promises fireworks in the full-size pick-up EV arena

RAM’s inaugural electric pick-up truck will be previewed in concept form this November before the showroom-ready RAM 1500 EV enters production some time in 2024.

The intel comes courtesy of a recent report by MotorTrend, which quotes RAM CEO Mike Koval as saying the concept “will open up a lot of eyeballs” with a unique design that will be fully independent of the brand’s internal combustion offerings.

“We may not be first to market, but we’re committed to bringing the best battery electric vehicle to market in 2024 having full knowledge of what our competitors are doing,” he told MotorTrend.

Koval added that this rival awareness will allow RAM’s full-size battery-electric pick-up to better its competition – Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, Rivian R1T – in pretty much every way.

The prospect of a battery-electric RAM 1500 has been out in the open for well over 12 months now, with several shadowy teaser images having been released so far, including one thought to be of an electric RAM TRX equivalent.

All of the teasers have depicted an illuminated ‘RAM’ logo on the grille, a more aerodynamic passenger compartment and a full-width tail-light signature.

What’s varied, however, is the shape and profile of the front lighting signature beyond the logo, as well as the font of the logo itself.

Koval says the design has just about been finalised, but there’s still plenty of room for “adjustments” and tweaks as required.

The finished product will be underpinned by Stellantis’ new STLA Frame global platform and a powertrain that’s claimed to offer more than 800km of driving range depending on its application – something it will need if it is to truly battle the aforementioned competition, not to mention niche products like the GMC Hummer EV.

Existing RAM customers have reportedly told the brand that any new model, regardless of powertrain, must perform at least as well as the current portfolio in terms of the driving experience, towing/payload capability and outright performance.
