Gullwing moves for Megane?

Low-slung, gullwing-doored concept broadly hints at future Megane directions

Hardly likely that a future production model will look quite as stretched and flattened as this "Megane Coupe Concept" first unveiled at the Geneva show, but undoubtedly there are things we should be looking for to determine some of the themes that could appear in the next Megane.

The gullwing-doored four-seat concept coupe provides a massive opening for passengers entering either the front or rear, along with the usual flamboyant show car interior.

The asymmetric seats "seem to float in midair" while the dash is described as futuristic and ethereal with two distinct sections -- one for convenience, the other for providing information to the driver via an analogue/digital speedo and an analogue tachometer.

A multi-screen display proffers navigation/radio/video on one central screen that is flanked on either side by two other screens showing images relayed by cameras incorporated in the exterior mirrors.

The Coupe Concept wields a 147kW 2.0-litre turbo engine producing 280Nm of torque and driving through a six-speed manual transmission. Renault says the Concept Coupe reaches 100km/h from a standstill in 7.2 seconds and returns an average fuel consumption figure of 6.5l/100km while emitting a low 154g of CO2 every kilometre.

Close to a concept that almost looks like an original artist rendering, the Renault is fitted with outrageous 21-inch wheels with 245/35 Michelin Pilot tyres, while the driver sees the way at night via LED headlights.
