Honda trademarks design for wild new GT

Japanese car-maker developing sleek wind-cheating alternative to BMW 8 Series

Honda has been caught filing trademarks for what could be a revolutionary grand tourer that's set to feature advanced new aerodynamics.

The new filing, made to the United States Patent and Trademark Office on February 2, is for a striking futuristic take on a BMW 8 Series or a Lexus LC rival that could be powered by either a pure-electric powertrain or the car-maker's hydrogen fuel-cell technology.

Created to have an impossibly low drag coefficient, the new Honda GT looks like it will feature pioneering thinking when it comes to air-bending in pursuit of a class-leading EV range.

These include novel fared-in front and rear wheels that appear to feature slashes in the body for cooling.

The sharp-edged boomerang headlights, meanwhile, appear to act as spoilers to direct air both above and below to specific channels.

Looking like the top half of the body is made of glass, it's believed that the neat packaging for the EV or fuel-cell powertrain will allow much of the space beneath the black glass of the sleek GT to be devoted to cabin space.

With little ground clearance, it's thought the unnamed Honda GT will have a variable ride height to lift its sculpted body away from harm over speed bumps.

At the rear of the car there's smooth surfacing and a large diffuser designed to cut turbulent air that causes drag.

Since the mystery Honda looks so futuristic it's thought the large coupe is probably a concept car that will be unveiled shortly.
