Jaguar Land Rover manufacturing Brazil-bound
Prestige marques set to open new production facility in BrazilJaguar Land Rover has announced a new manufacturing plant in Brazil to be constructed within the next 12 months. The new plant is anticipated to supplement Jaguar Land Rover production, easing the pressure on the Halewood plant in the UK.
Dr Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover, said “Brazil and the surrounding regions are very important,” and the new plant will have a capacity to build 24,000 vehicles annually.
With no announcements on exporting these vehicles, 24,000 per annum sure sounds like a lot for just the Brazilian market – but not many in a commercial context. With only 35 dealers across Brazil, Jaguar Land Rover will surely look at selling these cars abroad and the plant is perfectly situated to capitalise on the North American market.
The previously announced China-based manufacturing plant will also see Jaguar Land Rover supply increase dramatically with the Indian-owned companies hoping to seize a decent chunk of the emerging Chinese market.
Construction of the Brazilian manufacturing facility will commence mid-2014 and it is expected that the first vehicles to come off the assembly line will be in 2016. The plant will supply vehicles for Brazil – where Jaguar Land Rover has already sold just under 10,000 vehicles for the year to date – and other South American countries.
