Italian sports car maker Lamborghini has pushed itself into the eSports world with its latest collaboration with video game Rocket League. Described as "Soccer, but with rocket-powered cars", Rocket League has up to eight players assigned to each of the two teams, using rocket-powered vehicles to hit a ball into their opponent's goal and score points over the course of a match.
The game includes single-player and multiplayer modes that can be played both offline and online across all platforms and versions of the game.
Psyonix, the production company behind Rocket League says that they chose the Lamborghini Huracán STO to join the game because of its unique design inspired by Lamborghini racing cars and for its benchmark performance figures; top speed of 310 km/h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds. The virtual version of the Huracán STO is available for gamers around the world from today through to April 27 and will be used to compete in the Battle of the Bulls event during the Rocket League Championship Series X Lamborghini Open.
The purchased package to use the Lambo gets gamers the car in Blu Laufey and Arancio California and with different liveries and customisation options. The package is completed by the roar of the engine, two sets of tyres and the exclusive Huracán STO Player Banner and Antenna systems.
Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini said that they are excited to push into the digital world via eSports and gaming, “The debut of Huracán STO in the world of Rocket League is a further step in the digital strategy of Lamborghini, which entered eSports in 2020 with its own one-make championship. Gaming and simulation are phenomena of particular interest to the automotive industry, important for engaging the new generations and making our cars even more popular with young people.”
The Battle of the Bulls gaming event will be played in a five-match series from the 23rd to the 25th of April and fans can follow the action live on Twitch. The best Rocket League gamers will compete in a series of one-on-one matches in an event format created for Lamborghini where each winner will receive a prize of US$5,000.
Rocket League has been entertaining gamers since its launch in 2015 and has won more than 150 Best Game awards worldwide and is available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch as well as online free-play.
