After a tumultuous history, and some six years after the company was passed into Chinese hands, MG Motor is celebrating its return to Britain.
The MG6 GT fastback and MG6 Magnette sports saloon (pictured) will go on sale from September 30, coinciding with the final stages of a cancer charity test drive used, in part, to promote the brand's comeback.
"We're planning a fun, family event to mark what is an important development in the new MG story, said MG Motor UK's head of marketing, Clint Cordle. "The brand is about fun and this will be a great way to celebrate."
MG is now owned by Chinese state-owned car makers Nanjing Automotive Group and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation who formed an alliance in 2007. The pair also has relations with Fiat, Iveco and Volkswagen.
The MG6 is based on SAIC's Roewe 550 which itself is a development of the British-built, BMW-designed Rover 75. Both the MG6 GT and Magnette are powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine developing 118kW/215Nm.
