MG teases Nissan JUKE rival

MG has teased a single image of the Nissan JUKE-rivalling SUV it will reveal at the Guangzhou motor show on November 18.

Set to sit below the current Mazda CX-5-rvialling GS SUV that will launch in Australia later this year, the all-new small SUV appears to show the next chapter of the Anglo-Chinese car-maker's design language, which looks like it was inspired by Jaguar's F-PACE SUV.

Believed to be the work of the UK and China-based design studios of MG's parent company Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), the small SUV is claimed to be the beginning of the brand's move upmarket.

On sale globally in 2019, the small SUV -- codenamed internally as the 'ZS' -- will share engines with the GS SUV. That means it's likely to come with that's car's 124kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder, matched with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

As well as the small SUV, MG is believed to be also developing a larger SUV to sit above the GS in its line-up, to go head-to-head with cars like the new Ford Edge.

It's thought that the flagship SUV will arrive around the same time as the firm's small SUV in 2019.

Last month saw MG return to Australia with the MG3 city car and Toyota Corolla-rivalling MG6.

Backed by a six-year warranty schedule, roadside assistance and a yet-to-be priced capped-cost servicing program, MG's first factory-backed local deliveries are scheduled for later this month.
