The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has been rated five stars for safety by local crash-test specialists, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
Testing was undertaken by ANCAP partner, Euro NCAP, and the data supplied was used to arrive at the five-star rating by the local crash-testing authority without physically testing the car in Australia.
To achieve the result, the Eclipse Cross recorded a score of 97 per cent for adult occupant protection, despite its 'marginal' chest protection for rear-seat passengers in a full-width test. Child safety was rated at 78 per cent and safety assist systems – comprising speed assistance, seatbelt reminders, lane support and autonomous emergency braking – helped push the Mitsubishi to a 71 per cent tally in that category.
“Australasian consumers continue to be spoilt for choice in the SUV segment with the new Eclipse Cross arriving on sale with a top ANCAP safety rating,” said ANCAP CEO, James Goodwin.
“The Eclipse Cross achieved a very high score for Adult Occupant Protection at 97 per cent – the equal second highest score in this area of assessment, and the highest in its class.
“The design of the front of the vehicle as well as its ability to avoid or minimise the injury risk to a pedestrian through its standard fitment of autonomous emergency braking contributed to its strong score of 80 per cent for Pedestrian Protection.
“The Eclipse Cross, along with the majority of models rated this year have kept pace with our increasing safety standards.”
“This is a positive sign for Australasian consumers as it sets the foundation for the safety standard we should expect when we again raise the bar next year.”
