New Lamborghini Huracan variant coming April 12

Friendlier ‘Tecnica’ version of the rabid Huracan STO is most likely

A new V10-powered Lamborghini is set to make its global debut on April 12 and it’s most likely to wear the ‘Huracan Tecnica’ nameplate.

Very little is known about this new mystery Lamborghini Huracan variant, but we know it’s a Huracan purely from the fact it will be powered by a V10, as confirmed by the Raging Bull brand’s teaser image.

Just a single image has been released thus far, with the picture in question showing off an aggressive carbon-fibre engine cover and bold V10 badge unlined by the Italian colours and the firing order.

For the anoraks out there, the firing order is 1, 6, 5, 10, 2, 7, 3, 8, 4, 9.

No other vehicle specifics have been revealed just yet, but there are really only two possibilities as to what this upcoming new model will be; the rally-modded Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato or the STO-derived Huracan Tecnica.

Online chatter has nominated the latter as the more likely option, even though spy pictures of each trademarked variant have emerged out of Europe in recent months.

According to the rumour mill, the Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica will be a more road-friendly version of the STO performance flagship, just as the GT3 Touring is to the Porsche 911 GT3.

While the Huracan STO is still road-legal, the Tecnica is expected to tone down the aesthetics with some subtler aero features and possibly even a softer suspension tune, while retaining the STO’s fearsome 470kW/565Nm engine tune, race-spec carbon ceramic brakes and rear-drive configuration.

Lamborghini buffs will already be familiar with the Tecnica nameplate; it was fitted to the back of some of the very last examples of the previous Gallardo.

Available in LP550-2, LP560-4 or LP570-4 guides, the Gallardo ‘Edizione Tecnica’ cars were all standard Gallardos or Superleggeras tinselled up with some left-over parts from the Super Trofeo racers and bespoke colour schemes designed to keep sales ticking over for the then-aging model.

Given a Huracan successor is not due until 2024, a Tecnica variant of the current model therefore seems very logical.

If that proves to be the case, the Sterrato could be the last hurrah for the Huracan – and the final new combustion-powered version of Lamborghini’s entry-level supercar.
