Next Lamborghini Huracan locked in for late 2024

Italian brand’s junior supercar set to be electrified for a new generation

The all-new replacement for the current Lamborghini Huracan will be unleashed before the end of 2024, says the supercar-maker’s boss.

Speaking to US press, Stefan Winkelmann said: “At the end of 2024 a completely new Huracán will come to market”.

As part of his speech at a preview event for the new Lamborghini Aventador successor at the Italian brand’s Sant’Agata home, Winkelmann said the current Huracan's naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V10 will be swapped out for an advanced plug-in hybrid powertrain.

No further details were released but US mag Motor Trend says the Lamborghini supercar is set for an electrified twin-turbo V8 instead of its current non-turbo V10.

Other reports suggest the new plug-in hybrid V8 powertrain will be far from an off-the-shelf VW Group donk.

Instead, it will feature a unique set-up that will see it operate like a naturally-aspirated V8 at low revs, presumably with electric motor assistance, until around 7000rpm when the turbos both engage and boost the engine until its 10,000rpm cut-off.

It's thought that to help lower the costs of development of the trick powertrain, the Huracan might borrow from the wild 757kW Aventador V12 powertrain, with hardware like its new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission destined for the smaller supercar, if not all three of its electric motors.

It's thought Lamborghini could begin teasing the all-new Huracan as soon as late this year ahead of its late 2024 debut.

Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato

Before then, Lamborghini will launch the off-beat rally-inspired Huracan Sterrato.

Limited to just 1499 units, the Huracan Sterrato (Italian for ‘dirt road’) will challenge Porsche’s 911 Dakar for supercar supremacy when the going gets rough.

Featuring an extra 44mm ground clearance, all-terrain tyres, butch styling and even a roof snorkel, the 449kW coupe can still dispatch the 0-100km/h sprint in just 3.4 seconds, although top speed is tyre-limited to 260km/h.

Featuring an appropriate Rally Mode that allows tail-out antics, the softer-riding supercar is said to dish up genuine rallycross car pace when it arrives priced from €263,000 plus taxes ($A420,000).
