Nissan Australia extends new-vehicle warranty to five years

Nissan has succumbed to industry pressure and changing consumer expectations by extending its new-vehicle factory warranty to five years and unlimited kilometres.

The Japanese marque confirmed today that its factory after-sales warranty has changed three years/100,000km to five years/unlimited kilometres effective immediately.

Nissan is the last of the top 10 car-makers in Australia to adopt the measure. The new provisions will extend to five-years/200,000km for business buyers, which is in line or slightly better than the industry standard.

“Five-year warranty provides our customers with both confidence in the Nissan Brand and our vehicles,” said Nissan Australia managing director Stephen Lester.

“Nissan is committed to delivering the best total ownership experience, and whether its sales, service or finance, warranty plays an important role in delivering complete customer satisfaction.”

In a bid to appease tougher consumer expectations partially brought about by spotlight from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Nissan says it will offer complimentary roadside assistance during the revised warranty period.

The warranty measure will apply to all vehicles in the Nissan range, including the new LEAF bound for showrooms in August.

Nissan’s move follows similar measures from the likes of Toyota, Mazda, Volkswagen and Subaru in recent months.

Hyundai was the first car-maker to move to a five-year arrangement – all the way back in 1999.

While some mainstream vehicle brands including Kia now offer a seven-year warranty, much of the luxury market continues to make do with three-year warranties.
