Nissan has teamed up with an inventor who has created a paint finish that absorbs UV light during the day and releases it for up to ten hours overnight creating a car that glows.
Offering significant safety benefits for those who park in areas without street lamps, the new tech could also make finding your Nissan in poorly lit car park a cinch.
The spray-applied coating, called Starpath, was developed by Kiwi inventor Hamish Scott. He originally created the glow-in-the-dark finish for coating unlit roads and paths to help make them more visible to users.
Differing from other glow-in-the-dark treatments Scott says his technology is made from completely organic materials.
The inventor hopes in the future his paint coating will bring more environmental benefits as a street full of cars treated with Starpath in urban areas would rid the need for street lamps.
The paint finish has also been designed to glow in any colour - currently, Scott offers blue, green, red, orange or purple glow.
Nissan says if it chooses to go ahead and offer the paint as an option on its vehicle line-up the paint’s glowing effect has been proven to last 25 years.
