Nissan's space seats

Japanese company is developing seats aimed at duplicating the weightless conditions experienced in outer space
Nissan researchers are working up a new approach to car seat design that uses data gleaned from the weightless environment experienced in outer space to maximise comfort and minimise fatigue.
By analysing the “neutral posture” that humans take on in a weightless environment, the company, in a joint research programme with the Yamazaki Laboratory at Keio University, is using a seat simulator and a musculo-skeletal model to reduce loads on “each muscular and spinal area from the seated position.”
The concept attempts to replicate the weightless neutral posture by providing continuous support from the pelvis to the chest. This reduces muscular and spinal loads and improves blood flow, making long-distance travel safer and more comfortable.
Nissan says it “used control of the distribution of local deformation characteristics around the seat back in its initial shape to help realize optimal support."
The company is not saying at this stage when the new seat design will go into production.
