Set to be revealed next March at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, Audi’s smallest SUV has been spied doing test laps at the famous Nurburgring.
Amid speculation that it would be named the Q1 instead of Q2 due to a naming rights dispute with Fiat Chrysler (FCA), it is believed that the smallest SUV in the Audi family will be named the Q2 after all.
The vehicle seen in the images is wearing considerable camouflage but still bears distinct Audi design cues, including the front grille design, angular headlights that look very similar to those on the A1, as well as the signature tail light design that can be vaguely seen through the camouflage.
The Q2 is expected to adopt a ‘mini-Q7’ design, as well as using a shortened MQB platform shared with numerous other vehicles in the Volkswagen Group.
The cheapest Q-model is predicted to be offered with several powertrains, including a mixture of three- and four-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. Adding to the engine options will be the choice of standard front-wheel drive as well as the option of Audi’s acclaimed Quattro all-wheel drive system.
Numerous rumours have speculated that there is a sporty SQ2 variant as well as an e-Tron plug-in hybrid version of the smallest Audi SUV but nothing concrete has been released yet.
Although European deliveries will commence mid-2016, local arrivals are unlikely to start until early 2017.
