Matiz is not the sort of name to stir up passion. It will be forever associated with the low-powered Daewoo sold here prior to the Korean brand being unceremoniously dumped by Holden.
But in other markets, Matiz is a name that's moderately respected. According to our spy photographers at Carparazzi, the latest generation car is built on the new M300 platform, a platform that will also underpin the Chevrolet Beat and Spark.
The blokes at Carparazzi say that the M300 is variously known throughout the GM world as "Global Mini" and "GMDAT-M". It's not likely we'll see the car here in Australia, since it would be competing in the same VFACTS market segment (light cars) as the Barina and the appeal to consumers would be fairly limited. Australian cities are not as congested as some in Europe and parts of Asia where the Matiz has been welcomed in the past.
