TOKYO MOTOR SHOW: Nissan reveals IMk concept

Nissan has given the world a glimpse of its futuristic concept car before its global unveiling at this month’s Tokyo motor show.

Touted as the “ultimate urban commuter”, the baby concept car is fully electric and is said to convey the brand’s vision for ‘changing how vehicles are powered, driven and connected to society’.

Measuring up at just over 3.4 metres long and 1.5 metres wide (excluding the side mirrors), Nissan says the IMk is a luxury small EV with a minimalistic, lounge room-like feel that exudes the nature of a café or lounge.

And, while the IMk concept isn’t a proper self-driving machine, it does offer mild-autonomous functionality with hands-off single-lane driving capabilities, as well as smartphone-enabled ProPILOT Remote Park, which allows the vehicle to park on its own and then deliver itself back to you via your phone.

Information such as speed and navigation are displayed to the driver through holographic displays, while the bench-style seat has a dimpled texture that “gives the impression of sitting on a floating cloud”.

Nissan has also put effort into making the exterior as minimalistic as possible too, drawing on its new design philosophy, “Timeless Japanese Futurism”.

And, just like the Nissan LEAF, the IMk has the ability to integrate with a home energy system and use its spare battery capacity to balance home energy needs using Nissan Energy Share (Vehicle-to-Home).

Power output, range and charging details are yet to be revealed.
