Genesis says that if you want to pamper your four-legged best friend, look no further than its new Genesis X Dog concept that’s based on the battery-powered GV70 Electrified SUV.
Recent studies carried out by the University of Lincoln in the UK found that dogs that travelled in EVs were less restless, so the Hyundai-owned luxury brand set about creating its own high-end dog-friendly sanctuary.
Said to offer everything a spoiled pooch could ever need, the upgraded Genesis GV70 EV gets a Genesis-branded heated dog cushion, built-in shower, wireless Bluetooth audio system, pull-out ramp for less accessible hounds and a push-to-open storage component that features a 230V plug socket.
On the move there’s even a Genesis personalised dog collar and safety harness to keep pups safe.
The new boot module is said to also be made using quilted vegan leather that matches the interior of the Electrified GV70, plus there’s non-slip surfaces and a safety locking mechanism.
The lightweight, pull-out ramp, meanwhile, is made of aluminium and gets carbon-fibre telescopic tubes that are said to be both easy to use and durable over all terrains, should you venture off-road.
Another handy feature is a six-litre pressurised water tank that feeds the shower, allowing your dog to be washed after a long walk.
Paired with an electric hair dryer that blows air at an optimal temperature for canines, both the shower and dryer are possible thanks to the Genesis SUV’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities.
One final touch is the battery-powered GV70 comes with an ambient lighting system that allows owners to select from 100 colours, with blue and violet hues recommended as the most soothing for mutts.
Cleverly, when you’re not transporting your woofer in the lap of luxury, owners can easily remove the entire rear boot module to free up space for luggage.
For now, Genesis says the X Dog concept is a one-off, but it’s thought some of the options shown might eventually migrate to the car-maker’s dealer-fit accessories catalogue.
Genesis says it will display the X Dog concept at its retail space in Battersea, London, where for two weeks it will provide a dedicated area for visiting dogs, with water bowls and beds available for tired pooches.
