If there’s one car that’s hot right now, it’s the new Suzuki Jimny.
It seems (almost) everyone either wants one or wants to be seen in one.
Whether it’s FOMO (fear of missing out), cult followers wanting an upgrade or just those yearning for a piece of exclusivity, there’s no shortage of interest in the fourth-generation baby off-roader.
The go-anywhere 4x4 has caused quite the stir since a revived version of the icon returned in 2019, and it seems people are trying to cash in on its popularity, selling near-new examples for a lot more than they came out new.
Just last month, Suzuki Australia upped the price of the 2020 Jimny by $2000 a pop – meaning you’ll now pay $25,990 for a manual, or $27,990 for an automatic (both before on-road costs).
However, the catch is, even if you order one today, you’ll still have to wait around 12 months (maybe more) to actually get it.
But, owners around the country appear to be cashing in on the news, posting dozens of near-new and/or lightly modified examples for close to $10K more than their original asking prices.
There are dozens of current-model Jimnys listed on carsales right now, some priced close to $40,000, accompanied by messages like “Don’t wait over a year to get one!” and “Extremely rare”.
Whether anyone is actually paying these asking prices remains to be seen.
