Nissan now offers Australia’s longest new-car warranty, having just announced a new 10-year/300,000km coverage.
Unlike the 10-year/250,000km coverage offered by MG however, Nissan’s new set-up is service-activated and requires customers to have their logbook servicing (and warranty work) done at an official Nissan service centre as opposed to an authorised external provider, at which point an extra 12 months’ coverage is added with each logbook service after the standard five-year coverage has expired.
If a vehicle is serviced outside of the official network, it will need to undergo an assessment at its next logbook service – carried out by Nissan – to ascertain its eligibility to rejoin the program.
Such stipulations are hardly new – Mitsubishi’s 10-year/200,000km set-up is actually split into two five-year/100,000km halves, with the latter being applied at the end of the former provided the vehicle has been serviced correctly through the authorised channels.
Still, a 10-years/300,000km warranty is nothing to be scoffed at, nor is the corresponding roadside assistance extension.
All new Nissan vehicles sold as of January 1, 2021, automatically qualify for the ‘10-year 300,000km warranty when servicing with Nissan’ program provided they meet the above criteria.
Announced in tandem with the market-leading warranty was a new five-year flat price servicing program primed to save customers up to $1145 off their serving bills – depending on the model – over the first five logbook services.
“Nissan Qashqai, X-Trail, Juke and Pathfinder owners will pay a flat price of just $399 each service for the first five services,” Nissan said in a statement.
“Patrol, Navara and Z will cost just $100 more … at $499 per service. Finally, Nissan Leaf owners will pay a flat price of $349 per service.”
Nissan Oceania aftersales director Michael Hill said both programs are intended to ease the financial strain on customers during these challenging times and provide newfound levels of support.
“In tough times and in a period where the new car market is full of mixed messages, Nissan Australia is putting our customers first,” he said.
“The new service-activated warranty is Australia’s only 10-year 300,000km warranty and is industry leading. It’s designed to deliver peace of mind to our customers.”
Outside of the 10-year coverage offered by Nissan, MG and Mitsubishi, the next-longest warranties are offered by Kia, GWM, Skoda and KGM SsangYong, all of which offer seven-year/unlimited-kilometre programs.
