RenaultSport releases video of Sandero RS
Cut-price RS to major in fun, if not performance. We’re not allowed itRenaultSport has released a film of its Latin America-only Sandero RS on track, ahead of its launch.
Badged as a ‘Renault’ for the Brazilian and Argentinian market, the new Sandero gains a new normally-aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Producing a modest 110kW, the new RS packs 40kW less than the Clio RS 200 but is said to weigh “significantly less” than the smaller supermini, says RenaultSport. Despite the power deficit the Sandero RS can still sprint to to 100km/h from standstill in 8.0 seconds.
Sporting a new body kit and 17-inch black alloys from the Renault Twingo RS133, the Sandero also gains new springs and dampers, bigger brakes, a revised steering set-up and an RS mode for its ESC.
Until the arrival of the Sandero RS the most powerful Renault-badged Dacia sold has been been a 74kW 1.6-litre variant.
According to reports there are no plans to export the new entry-level RS model to Europe or Australasia.
The new Sandero RS has gone on sale in Brazil for just $21,000.
