Next Bugatti hypercar to be unveiled mid-2024

French hypercar marque’s all-new Bugatti Chiron replacement set to feature wild hybrid powertrain

Bugatti has confirmed that it will finally reveal the eagerly anticipated sequel to the current Bugatti Chiron hypercar around mid-year.

It’s the first time the French marque has placed a timing on the all-new hypercar’s world debut, although Bugatti PR boss Nicole Auger was deliberately vague with “sometime in mid-2024”.

We do know that the still-secret model has already been shown to investors and potential buyers as recently as November 2023, with Bugatti boss Mate Rimac admitting as much on social media following a VIP event in Berlin.

In a post on Instagram from that event, there are two cars pictured under covers but no more revealed, and with late-stage testing of the Bugatti Mistral still to be finalised, there’s been no further mentions.

What we do know is the next Bugatti hypercar will be all-new, rather than sitting on a development of the Chiron’s full carbon-fibre monocoque.

Instead of a 1177kW quad-turbo 8.0-litre W16 engine, it will also feature an electrified powertrain, rather than leaping straight to all-electric power.

Details are thin on the ground on whether Bugatti will fling a couple of electric motors onto its venerable W16 or if the new powerplant will be centred around a new engine altogether, but Rimac has said car fans will be “astonished” by the “heavily electrified” engine that will feature a “very attractive combustion engine”.

In the running is a rumoured naturally-aspirated 8.3-litre W16 or a development of the latest 6.5-litre V12 that powers the hybrid Lamborghini Revuelto.

Other possibilities are a smaller-still V8, but whatever combustion engine is used, expect epic power that will exceed 1200kW.

Despite the mid-year reveal, production of the all-new hypercar isn’t tipped to begin until 2026.

Bugatti has yet to finish building the last batch of Mistral and Bolide cars at its Molsheim factory in the Alsace region of France.

Expect plenty of teasers in the coming months in the build-up to the next-gen Bugatti hypercar, which will no doubt be the last to come with a combustion engine.
