Small family cars are frequently the principal means of transporting the primary care giver and up to four children to school or the shops. Not necessarily suitable for family holidays, these vehicles are often a second car, purchased because they're affordable to run, easy to park in the urban environment and roomy enough for a growing family presuming the oldest child obtains a driving licence before the youngest starts complaining about the miserly accommodation in the centre/rear position.

Launched here in 2018 with petrol and electric models, the Hyundai Kona is the Korean brand's popular small SUV. Two four-cylinder petrol engines displace 2.0 litres and (turbo) 1.6 litres. Both front and all-wheel drive versions are sold. The 150kW electric motor and battery package of the Kona Electric delivers decent performance and over 400km of range. The MY2020 Hyundai Kona petrol-engined range comprises the Hyundai Kona Go base grade, Kona Active, Kona Elite and Kona Highlander. For MY2019 the Hyundai Kona Electric range consists of Hyundai Kona Electric Elite and Kona Electric Highlander. Hyundai is rumoured to be the working on an N Performance version of the Kona.
